Due to the hostile environment that is the retail auto market. I have rescinded my decision to buy a new vehicle at this time and have decided that the start up capital I would have used as a down payment will now be reassigned to Land Rover repairs, improvements, and modifications in earnest.

The burden of being intelligent and not influenced by peer pressure or salesman pressure is relieved by the knowledge and experience of not acquiring 30 or 40 thousand dollars of debt.

It was odd that after 20 or 30 test drives, I always felt more comfortable and in control when I climbed back aboard the SS Leaky Disco. New cars are supposed to give the potential customer an escape from the boredom or pain of their current vehicle. You should feel pampered and cooler when you drive something new. Alas, sadly no Volvo, Infiniti or Toyota 4Runner gave me that same feeling that I get while driving a V8 Land Rover. New cars all feel like dark, dank cellars or basements now. The 4Runner was such a gloomy dark space with ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE visibility. The Volvo, while wonderful to drive had too many intrusive driver aids and very shady dealer staff, the Infiniti were all at least 8k over MSRP.

So, first things first Jazzie aka SS Leaky Disco goes back under the mechanical knife on Monday to resolve some CEL issues. Shortly after she willvbegin to receive some upgrades in the form of off road front and rear bumpers, new exterior trim and LED bulbs, new shocks and springs(I'm going to finagle a 2" lift in here some how, probably Terrafirma pro-comp off-road springs and shocks - cheaper than OEM replacements) teflon blackout for the roof which is badly faded and eventually roof rack/tent.

I figure my mechanical issues should total no more than a couple grand because I have already done so much due diligence in the form of new mechanical bits and bobs. Hopefully it is just several sensors, hoses, seals and fluid flushes to resolve the currently mechanical issues. And then we can get down to making the old girl into something spectacular. Have a picture of my girl and her friend for your time. This guy was a mechanic and was trying to sell his rig, I wish that I had the cash last year to buy it, timing is everything. I think he has 3" lift on springs with an added 1.5" on spring spacer blocks, modded cam, borla exhaust, Detroit lockers front and rear along with a CDL, and a properly wired up winch and lighting system.

fear of what we know vs the fear of what we don't know

I totally see your point of view. Putting yourself into 30 or 40k of debt for something you're not in love with does not sound like a good idea. (Unless you might want to try a lease.)

Anyway, the blue on your car looks great. And is the other disco on some seriously uneven pavement or is something amiss in the suspension?

That is a seriously janky parking lot behind a workshop in Memphis, TN.

Apologies for calling your truck a car.

I have a feeling v8 mid sized utes are going to become more and more scarce.

Have you ever searched for what mid sized SUVs come with proper 4WD and solid axles and are available for sale in the US?

I'm a city guy into sport and gt cars, so trucks are rarely on my radar, but my brother is the one into SUVs. And he's always complaining about the lack of true options out there with a real off road capable suspension with locking diffs or whatever (pardon the ignorance).

He ended up with a Sahara 4door JK. he's got a couple of inches of lift on it and I want to say 32 inch tires(?) but now is just waiting for his motor to die so he can get a hemi in there because of the lack of power turning those big wheels. It barely gets up a minor grade on the highway in top gear.

Hey, you've got an awesome wife there fella. Don't ever let her go. Landies have caused many a rift with the SWMBO so one that is prepared to accept them is a keeper.

I saw a first gen Discovery just like that with Oregon plates the other day. I've always wanted a 2 door first gen Range Rover set up like that with a diesel.

I'm still shopping for a 4x4 and this bright yellow disco with roof rack, 7 seats, low kms, and a CDL popped up nearby. I'm really looking for reliable transportation, but dammit this is tempting nonetheless...

Mostly just CEL related things, I removed ACE and SLS airbag spring systems last year but I don't have the necessary computer tools to remove them from the vehicles ECU programming. I think the CEL stuff is simply bad sensors due to ACE/power steering fluid leaking on them and everything else in the engine bay for 7 years.
